Spray the entire fuselage with an adhesive such as Elmers Spray Adhesive, or 3M77 or 3M 08074 spray adhesive. Let the fuselage sit for about 15 minutes before starting to cover with tape. Elmers Spray Adhesive and 3M77 is available at places like Home Depot and Lowes. Elmers is foam safe but if you decide to use 3M77 be very careful they have chanced the formula and it now includes acetone which can melt foam. Spray the 3M77 on lightly and keep the can at least 12 inches from the foam to let the acetone evaporate before it hits the foam. 3M 08074 is an automotive trim adhesive and usually can only be found at wholesale auto parts businesses but not at your local Auto Zone or Pep Boys. |
The next step is to strengthen the fuselage with some Bidirectional strapping tape. After measuring a length of tape make a slit about where the elevator servo arm is. |
Lay it down as shown |
Trim around the output shaft |
Trim flush with the firewall |
Lay another piece of bidi tape overlaping as shown in the next picture |
A shot of the tape overlap. You can also see the wooden plug that will be used for the rubber band anchor points. |
|
At the tail, wrap the tape around the bottom. |
At the nose cut a several short slits to help the tape conform to the shape of the nose. As you will see in the next couple of pictures. |

You should end up like this. Also later you'll iron the tape much as you would for Monocote and the bidi will tighten up even more. |
Make several slits here and fold the tape over into the wing saddle. |
|
It's better to use shorter pieces as you come around the top. |

|
Using the same method of slicing the tape you can get the tape to lay around the canopy. |
